Why God?

As parents, we know our children are full of big questions about the world around them, especially when it comes to the topic of God and faith. Fortunately, this children's book tackles these weighty topics in an accessible and engaging way.

The book is called "Why God?" and it's written by Dan DeWit, who was actually one of my professors in college. Illustrated by Christine Grove, the story follows a brother and sister duo named Thomas and Hope as they explore the question of God's existence.

The story begins with Thomas, the curious young boy, asking his sister why he should believe in God when his friend Richard doesn't. This prompts a conversation with their mom, who uses examples from nature to point Thomas and Hope towards evidence of God's creation.

The mom explains how even the perfect balance of the earth's position in relation to the sun is a clue that points to an intelligent Designer. She also points out how all people understand the difference between good and bad, this too is another signpost that points toward God.

Even more Importantly, the book doesn't shy away from the reality of sin and brokenness in the world. When Thomas asks about bad things that happen, the mom acknowledges that the world is no longer "just right" due to Adam and Eve's disobedience. But she reassures the children that God left us clues in our hearts to know that He is real and good, and He wants us to trust in Him.

The book ends with some additional discussion questions for parents, making it a great tool for sparking deeper conversations about faith with young, inquisitive minds. Children today have big questions, and "Why God?" provides a gentle, thoughtful way to start addressing them.

If you're looking to nurture your child's spiritual curiosity, be sure to check out "Why God?" by Dan DeWit. It just might be the perfect addition to your home library.
